4 Things you should know about a Pre-laminated particle board

What is pre-laminated particle board?
Pre-lamination is nothing but the pressing of any MF impregnated decorative color paper which has a uniform density and porosity on a Particle Board surface. This is done under a specific temperature and unit of pressure.
It has a decorative laminate surface attached to it at the time of its manufacture. This increases its aesthetic value and makes it look appealing for the end consumer. Apart from that, it is moisture resistant, has a good screw holding capacity,

Pre-laminated Vs Laminated
What is so different about the pre-laminated particle board? Well, simply they are much more attractive to look at than the plain particle boards. They come in colourful hues, designs, as well as textures. The designs that replicate the look and feel of wood are more popular with customers as compared to the rest.
In case of pre-laminated particle boards the total lamination thickness gets significantly reduced since brown paper is not required, and the melamine saturated decorative paper is directly heat-pressed and bonded over the particle board surfaces.

Types of Pre-laminated particle board
There are two types of Pre-laminated particle board:
1. One sided lamination (OSL): Only one side of the particle board (top surface or show surface) is laminated, whereas the other side is kept plain
2. Both sided lamination (BSL): In this case, both the top and bottom surfaces are pre-laminated. This makes it costlier than OSL.
Pre-Lamination process
Low pressure machines press machines that utilize a short cycle lamination production line are used for pre-laminating the particle boards. The decorative paper that is impregnated with melamine resin is pressed using a press machine over the particle board surface. The process is same for MDF and HDF (Medium and High density fibre-boards.
Pre-laminate particle boards are also called Melamine faced chip boards as melamine resin is used as a bonding agent to laminate the particle boards. Pre-laminated particle boards come in two different grades- Interior grade and Exterior grade. These grades are based on the types of resins used in its making. The Exterior grade boards are the stronger ones, if you compare the two.

Applications

Pre laminated particle boards can be used in the making of ready-made furniture, partitions, kitchen cabinets, racks/shelves, shutters, false ceiling, wall panels, partitions and other such applications.

Pre-laminated particle boards are uniform in density waviness, resistant to acids, alkalis and abrasion. These boards are high on durability and are usually used for interiors applications. Besides these qualities, it is also easy to clean and maintain, easy to install, has high bending strength and is termite proof. What else would you want?
